One pencil taken from the conceptual artwork Six Pencils, Twelve Dimensions by British artist Richard Wentworth, bought at Tate Modern in London and subsequently intervened. Created in 2008 as an “artist’s multiple” commissioned by the Tate Gallery in London, the work consists of a wooden box containing six thick carpenter-style pencils, each printed with different words exploring physical and metaphysical measurement. In 2017, Cristina Navarro Poulin selected the pencil bearing the inscriptions “length” and “longueur” and carved a series of twisted lines through it, creating complex paths and a web-like set of possibilities that are difficult to measure clearly due to their changing shapes and irregular lines.
